The history education program at Missouri State is the largest program of its kind in the state of Missouri. Unlocking the key to the past

Most Bachelor of Science in Education, History majors become high school teachers, but degree in history education provides the necessary skills and abilities for a variety of careers beyond secondary education settings. Drawing on the principles of a liberal arts education, you will develop a useful skill-set that includes critical thinking, analysis and research skills. Upon receiving your degree in history education, you may pursue a career in many settings and fields:

  • High school teacher
  • Museum educator
  • National or state park guide
  • Community educator
  • University student support specialist

Graduate education

If you decide to continue your education in a graduate program, your career options and earning potential will increase. To aid in this transition, you should produce solid undergraduate work and secure faculty recommendations to help you move on to the next step. While a graduate degree in history is a natural fit with an undergraduate degree in the subject, there are also graduate options in related fields such as law, public history, library science and education which can further expand your potential.
