Hiram and Susie Westmoreland
Hiram H. Westmoreland was born on July 16, 1848. He was born in Tennessee. His family moved to Greene County, Missouri when he was seven. Hiram grew up on a farm. He went to Boonville College in Missouri. He went to college until he got sick. Then he went back home. Hiram bought a farm. It was in Greene County. Hiram was married to Susie E. Morton on November 13, 1873. She was born in Greene County. She was born on August 8, 1851. On their farm, Hiram raised cattle and horses. He sold people cows and horses. Hiram was famous in Greene County for raising fine horses. He owned some of the best horses in the state. One of his horses was named Star Wilkes. The horse had some of the best horses in the county. Hiram used his horses to run a stagecoach. He had a stage line out of West Plains, Missouri. The Westmoreland family had a dairy farm. This dairy farm sold a lot of milk to people in Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Westmoreland had three daughters and two sons. They also had at least nine grandchildren. The whole Westmoreland family went to a Methodist church. Susie was very active in the church. Hiram was very involved in politics. He was a Democrat. Mr. Westmoreland died on March 1, 1903. After he died, Mrs. Westmoreland ran the family business. She ran the dairy business.
