Following your passion for teaching history

In the traditional format, the history secondary education graduate program is a 33-hour program that can be completed in one-and-a-half years if full-time student status is maintained. For new students, the graduate program begins in the fall semester, though special accommodations may be made. Most of the graduate-level courses in the department of history are offered online, in the evenings or in a blended format, providing flexibility for working professionals.

The history secondary education graduate program offers two areas of emphasis: history and social sciences.

Within the graduate coursework, you may select one of two options to fulfill the Master of Science, Secondary Education research requirement:

• The first option requires that you complete a written thesis in your emphasis area and orally present your research to graduate. Approval must first be received from the program director and/or your advisor.
• The second option requires the completion of an extensive research project or major creative work for graduation.

In addition to completing a thesis or research project, you must also pass a comprehensive exam.
