FROM PRESIDENT DEBO

Well its hard to believe that its December already.  This year has really flown by.  Doesn't seem that long ago that it was January and I was just taking on the role of President.  I tell you what, it's been a busy year for me and I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be the President of this organization.  It was a real honor for me
and I do appreciate the faith you placed in me the last year.
At the December meeting we will be selecting the administration for next year and I believe we have a good list of candidates for the offices that will be available.  It should be noted however, that our current Treasurer, Jim Miliken has agreed to be treasurer again for 2008.  But we will have to approve a change to the bylaws, or at least a one time exception to the bylaws since Jim has already served two terms in this position, and then someone else is suppose to take the position.  I will bring this up at the meeting and we can discuss it then.
Steve Buffat has asked me to give a summary of the seminar as he is unable to do so since he is out of town for work.  This was certainly the main focus for the 2007 officers and board for this year.  I think though that the final product met the expectations of those who attended.  I don't have the numbers in front of me as I write this, but suffice it to say that there were a lot of vendors there and plenty of books, dvds, mouse pads, etc., that one could purchase and take home with them.  The speakers were outstanding I thought.  I was really impressed with Christopher Phillips doing the Friday night program
without notes!  Arnold Schofield who spoke on Saturday morning was impressed by the number of people who were there Saturday morning, as he told me he soon realized that he didn't have enough hand outs for his program.  Of course no matter how many subjects were covered, no seminar can cover them all and this one most certainly didn't.  However
we did have a pretty good variety of subjects, so I hope that those attended found at least one program topic or more that they were interested in.  I personally found all the programs to be very interesting and regret that I could not stay for the last two.  A thanks goes out to David Roggensees for helping us out at the last minute when one scheduled speaker couldn't make it.  Overall the comments that we heard were all good and very encouraging for a first time seminar.  We'll have more on the seminar at the December meeting.
So that about does it.  It's been fun as President and I wish my successor all the best.  I hope that everyone can make it to the December meeting as the Back Porch Players should put us all in the holiday spirit as we close out the year!

FROM PRESIDENT DEBO

Well its down to the wire now.  The Civil War Seminar that has been the focus of so much time and energy will soon be upon us and will then itself become a part of the Round Table's history.  If you haven't already, you still might be able to registered for it.  Because it is after October 31st though, the cost to register for the whole weekend will now be $60.00.  Despite this increase in cost the seminar is still a bargain.  I have been to other seminars which have cost a lot more.  So this is your final chance to get yourself registered.  I hope that everyone that can will make it for at least part of it.
Let me take a moment to remind you also that the quilt that we have been selling tickets for and the Andy Thomas painting of the Battle of Mine Creek will both be given away at this seminar.  Many thanks to the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild and to Art and Pat Blume for the donation of both items to the Round Table.  Many thanks also to everyone who has donated to each fund raiser!
Oh, the shirts are in and will be available at the seminar.  They are great looking shirts and would look great on anyone!  The cost is cheap too, so you might want to pick one up, if not at the seminar, soon!!
On a final note the nominations for the officers of the Round Table for 2008 will be announced at the Friday night dinner on November 16th.  This should be the only "business" to be conducted at the dinner, or the seminar.  At the December meeting we will return to the regular format for the meetings and will hold the elections for the positions.  I encourage anyone who has thought of serving the Round Table, or knows of another member who they believe would serve the Round Table well, to submit their nomination at the November meeting.  Just be sure to check with the other person to be sure that they want to be nominated.  On a personal level, I have found the past year to have been a very rewarding and educational experience and I appreciate having served you as President.  I am sure that the newly elected President and officers will find it as such too as they lead us in 2008.
Well I had better wrap this up.   Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing everyone at the seminar!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minutes-

President Tom Debo brought the meeting to order at 6:33 PM with the reading of the minutes for August 8, 2007 on the behalf of Christopher Buffat.  Approximately 55 people were present for the night’s meeting. Jim Milikin then presented the Treasures Report showing a balance of $5,075.99 as of September 12, 2007.

Vice President, Steve Buffat gave an update on the seminar planned for this November.  He started by presenting the posters for the seminar.  He also passed out flyers to the membership and urged interest and stressed early registration.  There have been close to six hundred flyers already handed out to many different people and groups.  It is very important to sign up early because there is only room for only two hundred fifty people.  You can register in many different ways; by filling out the printed registration form, the online form at our website, or the registration form contained in the flyer.  Regional vendors for the seminar are being contacted; the goal is to have about twenty to twenty five vendors present at the seminar.  Advertisements for the seminar are well underway with such publications as North and South, Civil War News, and the Civil War Historian.  Unexpected advertisements have showed up in various newspapers and newsletters in the region.  He then mentioned that volunteers will be needed soon.  He then answered various questions from the membership.

Jim Scamanaci presented the books for the opportunity drawings on the behalf of Don Burkemper, whom was unable to attend.  He read a passage from Brave Men in Desperate Times, and then he spoke briefly on the quilt raffle.

Tom Debo then presented the sign up sheet for the Mine Creek trip.  He also introduced visitors to the Round Table.

Tom Debo brought the meeting back to order by asking members to pay their dues.

Brian Grubbs gave a brief introduction to a project that collects documents, from which a scan of the document is taken for a further source of information to the public.

Ted Hilmer, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Superintendent, started his remarks with showing the quilt that is going to be raffled the night of the annual dinner in November.  Ted also spoke about the new visitor centers film and that progress is going very well.

Teresa Hernandez, Program Chairman, then introduced the speaker for the night; Robert Collins.

Robert Collins spoke on Jim Lane which is also the topic of his new book.  He answered many questions afterwards.

Then the books were then raffled off, Greg Ellison won Brave Men in Desperate Times.  A visitor to the Round Table won, A Crisis in Confederate Command.

Meeting Adjourned at 8:02 P.M.
