News and upcoming events

  • The May, 2009 meeting of the Civil War Round Table of the Ozarks will be held at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell, Springfield, Missouri, on Wednesday May 13 at 6:30 p.m., and will feature  Civil War Round Table Member Steve Muckala on: "Boston Corbett & John Wilkes Booth". 
  • Our May book raffle will include James L. Swanson's Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer, donated by Dan Cunningham.

2009 Seminar: Beyond Campaigns and Battles

The CWRT Ozarks will hold its second seminar on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10,  2009, at the Clarion Hotel, 3333 S. Glenstone, Springfield, Mo.  The two-day event will feature:

  • Dr. LeeAnn Whites, University of Missouri, on women and the Civil War (our banquet speaker)
  • Richard W. Hatcher III, Historian, Fort Sumter National Monument, on Ft. Sumter and the submarine H. L. Hunley
  • Doug Scott, National Park Service (retired), on battlefield archeology at Black Jack, Centralia, Wilson's Creek, and Pea Ridge
  • Kip Lindberg and Matt Matthews on Kansan Redlegs and Jayhawkers
  • Bill Gurley, University of Arkansas, on battlefield medicine in the Trans-Mississippi Confederate forces
  • Blair Tarr, Kansas State Historical Society, on the Kansas Civil War battle flag restoration program
