Transfer credit policy

When you are admitted to Missouri State University’s History MA program, you may have up to 9 credit hours transferred from prior graduate-level history courses completed within the last 8 years, obtained at accredited universities.

When you are admitted to the Graduate Certificate programs, you may have up to 3 credit hours transferred from prior graduate-level history courses completed within the last 8 years, obtained at accredited universities.

Transfer credits may only be counted towards the track or elective requirements of the History MA degree/certificate. They may not count toward the core requirements, with the exception of HST 701 (see below).

The Graduate Committee will designate an appropriate course code under which transfer credits will be entered into your degree audit. The decision of the Graduate Committee and Graduate College is final.

Historiography credits

If you took a graduate-level historiography course, you can petition the Graduate Committee to have these credits count towards the HST 701 Historiography and Historical Methods core requirement.

To do this, you will need to submit a syllabus of your previous historiography course to the Graduate Director.

If your petition is rejected, the credits may still be transferred but will count as an elective under the HST 796 Independent Readings course code.
