The fast-track to a graduate degree

As an undergraduate history secondary education student, you have the opportunity to jump start your master’s degree by applying for preliminary acceptance in the Master of Science in Education in History program through the accelerated master’s option. This option may allow you to complete both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years by taking up to six hours of graduate-level history courses at the 600 or 700 level for both undergraduate and graduate credit.

You must complete your Bachelor of Science in Education in History program and receive Missouri certification in social studies for grades 9-12 to continue in the Master of Science in Education in History program beyond the six hours earned through the accelerated master’s program option.

Admission requirements

To be accepted into the accelerated master’s option, you must meet the requirements listed below:

  1. Hold junior standing with an overall GPA of 3.25
  2. Be a secondary education history major
  3. Complete a minimum of 15 hours in the department with a GPA in the major of 3.40
  4. Receive recommendation by a faculty member in the history department

Scheduling requirements

Before enrolling in a course for both undergraduate and graduate credit, you must receive prior approval from the graduate program advisor, the department head and the dean of the Graduate College. All approvals must be completed prior to the end of the change of schedule period for the course.
