Program overview
To earn your master's in history education, you'll need to complete at least 33 graduate credit hours.
You'll also:
- Choose an emphasis area: history or social science.
- Complete a thesis or research project.
- The first option requires that you complete a written thesis in your emphasis area and orally present your research to graduate. Approval must first be received from the program director and/or your advisor.
- The second option requires the completion of an extensive research project or major creative work for graduation.
- Complete a comprehensive exam.

Start in the fall; online classes available
For new students, you'll begin the program in the fall semester, though special accommodations can be made.
Most of the graduate-level courses in the history department are offered online, in the evenings or in a blended format, providing flexibility for working professionals.
You can complete the program in 1.5 years if you maintain full-time student status.
