Major in history
These are the steps and requirements you need to complete for the history major.
Your first steps: Declare your major
There are no formal admission requirements for the history major. Just be admitted to Missouri State and declare history as your major.
- Become a Bear: Apply to Missouri State. (If you’re not already a current student.)
- Before completing 60 credit hours, contact the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to declare or change your major to history.
After you declare: Pick your degree type and complete the requirements
As a history major, you'll pick a degree type (BA or BS) that fits your academic and career goals.
- The Bachelor of Arts (BA) requires fewer history courses. The BA is a good choice if you prefer flexibility and want to study multiple academic areas, including the fine arts.
- The Bachelor of Science (BS) offers a deeper focus in history.
Both degrees are non-comprehensive, which means you'll need a minor or second major as well.
