Phi Alpha Theta (ΦΑΘ) is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate
students, and professors of history.
The society has over 600,000 members, with some 9,000 new members joining each year
through 970 chapters nationwide.
We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through
the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning
and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students and teachers together for intellectual
and social exchanges, which promote and improve historical research and publication
by our members in a variety of ways (courtesy of phialphatheta.org).

or Dr. Chelsea Davis at CGDavis@MissouriState.edu (Strong Hall Room 436).
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Students who meet
the minimum requirements will be invited to join and will submit $50 for a one-time,
lifetime membership fee.
We hold one annual ceremony to induct new student members each academic year in the
spring semester. Students who apply in the fall semester and meet requirements are
welcome to join in and participate, even prior to induction.
As a member of Missouri State's Phi Alpha Theta chapter, you could:
Take part in on-campus events prioritizing student and faculty research and community
engagement.
Present your own original work to student peers and faculty members at regional and
national conferences.
Be honored for outstanding achievement(s) in historical research, writing and service
through our comprehensive awards program. This includes student paper awards, book
awards, chapter awards, and journal prizes.
Requirements to join
Undergraduate
Undergraduate students must:
Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (four courses) in history.
Earned in the classroom, online or through AP or transfer credits (or a combination
thereof).
Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.1 in history and 3.0 GPA overall.
You do not need to be a history major to apply!
Graduate
Graduate students (who were not inducted as undergraduates) must:
Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours toward their master’s degree in history.
Have a GPA above 3.5.
Have completed approximately 30% of your institute's or program's requirements for
the master’s degree.
