Traditional Master's
Following your passion for teaching history
In the traditional format, the history secondary education graduate program is a 33-hour program that can be completed in one-and-a-half years if full-time student status is maintained. For new students, the graduate program begins in the fall semester, though special accommodations may be made. Most of the graduate-level courses in the department of history are offered online, in the evenings or in a blended format, providing flexibility for working professionals.
The history secondary education graduate program offers two areas of emphasis: history and social sciences.
Within the graduate coursework, you may select one of two options to fulfill the Master of Science, Secondary Education research requirement:
- The first option requires that you complete a written thesis in your emphasis area and orally present your research to graduate. Approval must first be received from the program director and/or your advisor.
- The second option requires the completion of an extensive research project or major creative work for graduation.
Forms necessary for successfully completing your seminar or thesis can be accessed on the departmental forms page.
In addition to completing a thesis or research project, you must also pass a comprehensive exam.
